It's just another snowy day here in North Central PA! That means shoveling out the chickens, filling the bird feeders, drinking lots of tea, blueberry pancakes for breakfast, and the skis were loaded into the car for a morning explore. As soon as we started across the field at the local park, I saw something in the flat white expanse and told the little babe to turn around and come back towards me.
My camera doesn't zoom that well, so this is all I have, but it was a fox. We raced back to the car for the binocs, which of course were all fogged up. So we couldn't see details, but it just seemed to be hanging out there. It curled up and laid down and was still there when we left almost two hours later. The nearby woods have a lot of dog walker traffic, so maybe it felt safer in the field. Sort of strange, but it is good to know that wildlife is around.
We continued over to a small hill where we practiced our downhill skiing - not much thrill, but it was free and we had it too ourselves. The bluebirds and goldfinches were hanging out in the wildflower area - bee balm, goldenrod, and teasel in late Summer. A couple of crows started yelling when two Red-tailed hawks flew over. Only a handful of other walkers in the park - I love Winter days like this!
Then it was home for lunch and more tea. We'll be heading to the barn in the late afternoon for a visit before the temps drop into the teens tomorrow. I do like Winter, but in the moderation that we've been getting. A couple of temperate outdoor days, followed by huddle by the fire days. I really appreciate the people who take care of our horses in all kinds of weather. Keep warm and keep soaking up the light!
