From the top:
-Hepatica, can be white, pink, and purple. Found all over the forest floor at the moment.
-Christmas Fern fronds unfurling. I love their silver furry texture!
-I forgot to look at the tree species; I was too focused on the vibrant color of the leaves in the sunlight! I think maple.
-Smooth Yellow Violets. This was a new discovery for me. Apparently there are hairy and smooth yellow violets; the ones with fuzzy stalks are called Downy Yellow Violets.
Lowland areas of the forest were vibrant green from the recent rains we've been having. The creeks were running fast and clear and the little babe had plenty of creek stomping opportunities. We had a brief cookie snack beside the lake and spotted loons, Bufflehead ducks and Ring-necked ducks. An osprey was hovering overhead looking for lunch and a juvenile Bald Eagle was soaring around. We discovered a new trail and had the place to ourselves. All that makes for a great day in the woods.
