Crescent Beach in southern Maine. One of our favorite places to be. The beach and weather are different every time that we're there. On a sadder note, on this trip I was surprised by the amount of trash. There were the typical plastic bottles and small pieces of plastic, but also rubber bands from the lobster industry were all over. Sort of disappointing that an industry that relies on healthy oceans is causing a type of pollution itself. We also found two dead seals, one right on this beach that had washed up over night and then one at Portland Head Light. My husband reported the deaths to the proper authorities. Apparently a type of distemper virus is killing off large numbers of seals. Beaches offer a lot of learning opportunities for the little babe, some more serious than others. To be sure, there was also plenty of good old fashioned beach play!
