Scrabbling, pawing, gnawing, chewing, these are the sounds near my head at night.
Biting, clawing, occasional thumping, these mice could give someone quite a fright.
I close my eyes, try to sleep, but I'm counting squeaks instead of sheep.
Inside the wall they are safe for now, out of sight from cats and traps.
I might have to sleep with earplugs in or wear a hat with flaps.
For now I sigh, covers over my head, and pray no little feet scamper on my bed.
Totally unrelated picture from our walk earlier this week. Yes, we really do have mice in the walls of our old farmhouse. Luckily the little babe likes mice and so we're calling them our bed buddies. If they dare to show their little noses inside the room though, they're in trouble.
