Slow - Snail watching at the nature center. Since I was terrified and disgusted by anything insect-like as a child, I am delighted that my daughter is perfectly content to watch (and gently touch) snails.
Fast - How I ran after being bitten by a dog on my Saturday morning run. No broken skin, but 4 little tooth mark bruises from a big black dog on my fleshy left butt cheek. The little babe says proudly and with glee, "Mom was bitten on the butt!" (Photographs were taken in case documentation was needed, but I will not be sharing those.)
Slow - I am loving the process of making our own butter, (though not from our own cream). I love the small hand crank churner, the yellow color of the cream, and the amazing thickness of it. (Picture is of the cream from the top of the jar, BEFORE churning!)
Fast - The speed at which the butter is consumed on rolls, biscuits, pancakes, and sometimes even licked straight off the spoon.
Slow - We took a long detour on the way home from my parent's house, driving through a county that only got its first traffic light in 2010. My husband and I enjoy seeing snippets of Amish life, feeling a connection to many of the ways that they choose to live. (However, all is not a peaceable kingdom on the Amish farm, as we passed a lot of conventional chicken farm buildings and we imagine the horrible lives that those poor animals have to endure. Imagine living your whole life without seeing daylight, until the day you are taken to be slaughtered. Happily, we did also see some farms with pastured poultry tractors. And to note, the amazing cream pictured above is from an Amish farm.)
Fast - How the ducklings are growing! My husband built a new duck hut over the weekend and the Pekins are now living outside, tucked in between the chickens and the buckwheat. When the buckwheat is flowering, we will let the chickens in for a feast!
Slow - Even though there are plenty of moments in the day that are crazy and loud, I appreciate this life that I get to live as a stay-at-home Mom. The ability to live in the moment with my little babe and not have to rush her here and there is a luxury that is worth so much more than any salary I could ever earn.
Fast - How quickly my little babe is growing! Everyone says it, but you really don't understand how true it is until you have a child of your own. One day it's like - "WOW, they look big!"
