My most recent knitting project is a shrug that I made for the little babe. It is an Olearia shrug by Georgie Hallam. I downloaded the pattern last Fall and bought the yarn on one of our trips to Maine, then I put off starting it. I think because the yarn seemed thinner than what I normally knit with and I thought it would take a long time. (I am an impatient knitter.) I am pretty sure it was Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK yarn. I know, what kind of knitter am I if I don't even know what kind of yarn I knitted with? I thought this lilac color would make for a sweet cardigan.
I think this is actually my favorite project to date. I love the gathered pattern, but the kfb required to make it drove me crazy - it takes me double the length of time to knit a row of kfb than a plain knit row! However, the end result was worth it.
The little babe seems to really like the sweater too. She has worn it while playing in the dusty chicken pen (I wasn't thrilled), bushwhacking through the brambles (not the best idea), and helping her Dad take apart an old bike (lots of grease involved). Oh well, I made it for her to wear, not just to admire, so I have to take deep breaths and go with the flow.
The Olearia pattern is really cool because it provides many variations of the pattern - you choose the body length, type of sleeves, number of buttons. A longer cardigan would have been more practical, but I only had two skeins, which turned out to be just enough for the shrug with short sleeves.
