On a snowy Monday morning, the little babe and I visited the local arboretum. I was happy to see that the sidewalks at not been plowed yet - we were there even earlier than the groundsmen - and so we had about 3 inches of snow to walk/crunch on, which was much more fun than a slick icy sidewalk. Because of that snow, we were able to make a discovery - apparently, the arboretum is a rabbit wonderland! There were small hippity-hoppity tracks everywhere! It was so fun to see where they went. Most of the tracks were on the snow covered sidewalks and it makes me smile to think of rabbits out for midnight strolls admiring the flowerbeds. We followed their tracks into bushes and under benches and then discovered what rabbits like to eat at the arboretum in Winter - rose bushes! There must have been quite the feast in the Rose Garden the previous night and they left quite the mess - poop, pee, and leftover stems and flowers in the snow. It was great to be able to show the little babe such evident signs of life in a seemingly barren and frozen environment. During the Summer, the leaves and flowers mask a lot of the signs of animal life.
Rabbit tracks in the snow and chewed off rose branches.
Multiple rabbit tracks led straight under the middle of the bench and then out the other side into the bushes.
Chew marks on the rose branches close to the ground. All of the marks were less than one foot off of the ground - rabbit height.
One of the big party areas - lots of chewed off branches left on the ground, rabbit urine and poop, and depressions in the snow from their movement.
