My Mom and I recently went to a small local fiber event. A local non-profit was selling yarn that people had donated. All the skeins were only $1! I bought this multi-colored, soft hued, huge ball of squishy yarn. I had no idea what it was - I was hoping it was wool. I also had no idea about the yardage. I was going to save it for a vest for the little babe, but ended up making a hat first. I needed to grab something quick as we were heading out the door on Sunday to go to her birthday party, which meant an hour and a half of backseat knitting time for me. I completed this hat just as we pulled into my parent's driveway!
I did a simple garter stitch edge, then stockinette for 10 rows. I then made up my own pattern for the decorative part.
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: K2, yarn over 1, knit 2 together, repeat that sequence
Row 4: Knit
I repeated that pattern 4 times, then ended with a purl row. Then I continued in stockinette for the rest of the hat.
I really like how it turned out and so does the little babe. She has been wearing it inside all week. I haven't even washed it yet!
