Since we discovered Willard Beach on our trip to Portland in April, it is now one of our favorite places in Maine. It is a sandy beach, which is rare in Maine, where most of the beaches are rocky. It is only minutes from downtown Portland, yet it has a quiet family feel to it. And it allows dogs, which is fun to see in the mornings when dogs outnumber people. On the last morning of our vacation in Maine, we left our vacation house early and drove to Willard Beach for one last glimpse of the ocean and the feeling of sand between our toes before we headed back home to landlocked Pennsylvania.
The tide was out really far, the sun hadn't quite burned through the morning haze, and there were dogs galore running, playing, and swimming. I had a great time wandering around with my camera while my husband entertained the little babe. She discovered the playground there, so she was happy.
We left the beach sandy and hungry and hit up the coffe shop Scratch for some breakfast goodies. We sat outside with the locals and enjoyed the lowkey and friendly vibe of the neighborhood. We drove out of town with a little babe sleeping in her car seat, sand on our feet, and daydreaming about the little cedar sided house that we'll own near the beach one day.
Where is your favorite beach? Have you been there lately?
