I've been doing a bit of sewing, with the hopes of making a dress for my babe for Easter. After several attempts, I didn't end up with the dress that I had hoped, but it wasn't all a loss. The first thing I made was just a simple skirt. One piece of fabric (in the same pattern as this tunic), one piece of elastic, easy peasy. A smidge too long, but it has plenty of room for moving around, which is the most important feature.
The tunic on the right in the picture above started out as a dress with cap sleeves. However, the cap sleeves (a first attempt for me) ended up looking like strange wings on some sci-fi costume, so I cut them off. Believe me, it looks much nicer this way! The little babe wanted to wear both of them at the same time, so she must like them.
Then something for myself. I had received a christening gown for my little babe when she was first born with no explanation. (Christening is not something that either of our families do.) However, I kept the gown thinking that I could make something out of it in the future. That time is now! I cut the bottom off of the gown.
It is a very thin fabric, so I needed to make a liner for it. I found this t-shirt in the scrap bin that I had made for my husband. It has the image of one of our old male Corgis named Bart, who looked like a big furry slug. The shirt was funny, but my husband didn't wear it in public, so I decided to cut off the bottom half of it.
Luckily, it was just the right size for me. I sewed the two sides together, then sewed a piece of elastic to the top. Then I placed it inside the other piece of fabric. I wrapped the gown fabric over the top of the elastic and then sewed that. Luckily, the amount that I stretched the elastic was almost perfect for both pieces.
I completed it in one naptime. I could have cut the elastic a bit shorter, but it doesn't fall off me, so its fine. It is a fun, light, summer skirt. I don't normally wear white, but since this was repurposed, I'll make an exception. I have had my eye on this skirt, but couldn't pay that price. This skirt will have to do. I took these myself with the self timer, so they are totally out of focus. But don't you love my fancy footwear?
Luckily all of the chocolate she found ended up in her belly and not on her new clothes. She was a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup fiend!
