Today I am thankful for...
-Sunshine that warms us on these blustery November days.
-A husband who works hard for what he wants. After 6 months of remodeling a rental property, it is 95% complete and has a renter starting December 1st. Just about every surface in this place has a new finish on it, either paint or new flooring. He gutted it and made it look darn nice, a step above the normal boring all white rental property.
(Husband and little babe in the rental living room with the hip light that my husband picked out himself.)
(The kitchen, with a custom live edge walnut shelf.)
(The stairs. He removed all of the treads, replaced them with new ones, and painted the risers.)
(The totally awesome light that we bought at Circa Home and Vintage in Portland, Maine.)
-The furry friends who entertain my little babe and make me smile.
(How many furry animals can you find in this bathroom? ... There are five!)
(Exploring.)
-I am most thankful that I live in a place where I have safety and freedom. I just finished reading the book The Devil Came on Horseback: Bearing Witness to the Genocide in Darfur by Brian Steidle. Steidle opens the book by describing the scene when he found a one year old girl who had been shot in the back. As I was reading it, my one year old daughter was playing on the bed next to me. Just by luck, my daughter gets to grow up in a home where she will (hopefully) never know such pain. It is difficult to imagine adults living through such circumstances, but then to imagine babies who are still nursing, toddlers who are just learning to walk, and children who can't comprehend why this is happening to their families, it is just heart wrenching and almost unbelievable, except that it is documented in this book.
Be thankful.
